"Fidchell" translates to "wood wisdom." It's an ancient Celtic game of skill that was invented in the 9th century by Lugh the Ildána, Celtic God of Arts and Crafts, and predates chess by approximately 300 years. Four corner squares represent the 4 provinces of Ireland and the center square is the fifth province, from which the High King sets out for the other 4. He must be defended at all costs. The superbly detailed board and figures are handmade in Ireland from Irish limestone. Game rules are included. 11.5" x 8.5".
